Last Saturday’s 5-0 hammering to Reading made the Championship league table look very bleak for the Owls, as they slipped back into the bottom 3.
A horrendous display at the Madejski stadium left the Owls faithful booing and screaming abuse at the players on the final whistle. How much more can we take? Do Wednesday need a miracle?
Well, after 5 games played in February, Wednesday have lost 4. This coming on the back of a fantastic month in January, a period where boss Alan Irvine claimed the manager of the month award. I suppose the curse of that award really does exist!
Wednesday certainly do need to get a shift on now. Irvine is still adament that the Owls need 6 wins from 13. I personally believe that the points survival total will be slightly lower this season, with Peterborough already looking like a team destined for league One. I believe that 4 wins and a few draws would be enough but the big question is, WHERE ARE THESE WINS GOING TO COME FROM?
Well, Out of the remaining 13, Wednesday face 7 away trips, including 3 out of the next 4! However, I feel it will be the HOME games that decide the Owls’ championship future. Leicester, Derby, Watford, Bristol City, Crystal Palace and not forgetting our neighbours the Blades, all have to visit S6 before the end of the campaign. Win those games and we are safe, but it’s not as easy as that…
All those teams still have something to play for! and with away trips to Middlesborough, Swansea, West Brom and Cardiff coming up, it’s going to be a tough ask for Wednesday.
The Owls need to start picking up points, and FAST!
